A Journey, a Vision and a Partnership
Purpose Driven
My name is Damon Vaughan. Starting with nothing, I took my first job as a grocery store bagger at Food Lion making $4.15/hour. I had a dream to reach financial independence at an early age and I was able to achieve it through hard work, a deep commitment to personal finance and several life lessons along the way. At age 39, I reached my goal of retirement, which gave me an unimaginable freedom to pursue my passion. Now my dream is to help others reach their financial goals.
Humble Beginnings
As an only child, I was raised by a single mother who only made $13,000/year. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina called Brown Summit (population less than 5,000) where young black boys weren’t expected to succeed. I’ve faced many challenges in life from divorce to job transitions to massive student loans. Statistically, I had every reason to fail in life. However, I learned the importance of taking that first step, even when I didn’t think I could. One step, leads to two, which becomes three and before you know it you have momentum.
Paying it Forward
Now, I’m happily married to my wonderful wife, Kathleen, and blessed with two amazing daughters, Sasha and Sloan. I learned how to manage money, invest wisely and maintain financial discipline which has afforded me the financial freedom to pursue any path in life. I believe no matter the obstacles life throws your way, showing up every day is having what it takes to reach your financial goals.
I specialize in personal finance group sessions and 1:1 consultancy. In addition to publishing several articles on financial literacy, I’ve also led workshops for several organizations including for-profit and nonprofit.
